The Deputy Secretary General of NATO, H.E. Amb. Claudio Bisogniero, travelled to Mauritania on 21 June 2010, where he delivered a keynote address at the seminar on “The Cooperation between Mauritania and NATO in the Framework of the Mediterranean Dialogue”.

This seminar, which was co-organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mauritania and NATO’s Public Diplomacy Division, brought together in Nouakchott opinion leaders, media and officials from Mauritania and NATO.

During the visit, Ambassador Bisogniero held bilateral meetings with the President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, H.E. Mr. Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, the Minister of National Defence, H.E. Mr. Hamadi Ould Hamadi and the Chief of Staff of the Mauritanian Armed Forces, Gen. Mohamed Ould Cheikh Mohamed Ahmed.

Talks focused on the enhancement of NATO-Mauritania political and practical cooperation in the framework of the Mediterranean Dialogue, following the presentation by Mauritania to NATO of its Individual Cooperation Programme, a document which will frame NATO-Mauritania cooperation in a more tailored and focused way.
