The Deputy Secretary General of NATO H.E. Amb. Claudio Bisogniero met Members of the Shura Council and Central Municipal Council from Qatar in the framework of their visit to NATO Headquarters organised on 16 and 17 June 2010 by the NATO Public Diplomacy Division.

Topics discussed included  NATO’s New Strategic Concept and Outreach to the Mediterranean and the Middle East region; NATO’s military cooperation under the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative; NATO’s role in the fight against terrorism, NATO’s current operations; and its relations with Russia.

The programme of the visit of the Qatari policy makers also included meetings with the Permanent Representatives of Romania and the Netherlands to the North Atlantic Council H.E. Amb. Sorin Ducaru and H.E. Amb. Frank Majoor, the Chargé d'Affaires of Italy Mr. Gianfranco Incarnato, NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General Amb. Maurits Jochems, the Head of the MD and ICI Countries Section in the NATO Public Diplomacy Division Mr. Nicola de Santis, the Head of the Defence Policy and Partnership Section of the Defence Policy and Planning Division Ms. Burcu San, and the Deputy Assistant Director of the Cooperation and Regional Security Division of International Military Staff Brig. Gen. Pavel Adam.
