On 20 and 21 May 2010, the NATO Public Diplomacy Division organized a visit to NATO for a delegation of women from the Jordanian Armed Forces. The delegation was led by Col. San’a Al Sarhan, Director of the Directorate of Military Women’s Affairs, which is headed by H.R.H. Princess Aisha Bint Al-Hussein.

During their visit to NATO Headquarters, the group met with the Deputy Secretary General Amb. Claudio Bisogniero. They also received a briefing by H.E. Amb. Carlos Miranda, Permanent Representative of Spain on the North Atlantic Council and NATO’s Contact Point Ambassador for Jordan, and by H.E. Amb. Stefano Stefanini, Permanent Representative of Italy on the North Atlantic Council.

Other briefers included Mr. Nicola de Santis, Head MD&ICI Countries Section, Public Diplomacy Division; Col. Michele Crescenzi, Head MD&ICI Section, Cooperation & Regional Security Division, International Military Staff; Mr. Steven Sturm, Director, Defence Policy and Capabilities Directorate, Defence Policy and Planning Division; Mr. Nick Williams, Head, Operations Section, Operations Division; and Lt. Col. Hilde Segers, Chief, Office on Gender Perspectives, International Military Staff.

Topics discussed included NATO’s transformation and the new Strategic Concept, the Alliance’s cooperation with Jordan under the Mediterranean Dialogue, NATO’s operations and NATO’s fight against terrorism.

On the second day of the programme, the delegation visited SHAPE where they were received by Maj. Gen. František Maleninsky, Head of SHAPE’s Military Cooperation Division, and by Jordan’s Partner Liaison Team representative Lt. Col. Ali Saraireh.
