Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen paid his first bilateral visit, as NATO leader, to Prague. He met with Prime Minister Jan Fischer, Minister of Foreign Affairs Jan Kohout, and Minister of Defence Martin Bartak. He also met with Parliamentary leaders.

Three issues were on the agenda. On Afghanistan, the Secretary General welcomed the Czech contribution to the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan, and noted the importance of contributing to the NATO Training Mission.

The leaders discussed missile defence, which the Secretary General considers an important part of securing the Euro-Atlantic community against the threat of missiles. Finally, they looked forward to the new Strategic Concept, and agreed that the Alliance must set out the right balance between collective defence and expeditionary operations.
