Defence Ministers discussed today NATO’s engagement in Kosovo and took stock of the substantial progress in many areas in the last few months. They welcomed the achievement of the first phase of KFOR’s movement to deterrent presence earlier this week and noted that KFOR’s more flexible structure reflects the positive evolution in the overall security situation over a sustained period of time.
Ministers reaffirmed the Alliance’s commitment to continue fulfilling its mandate for a safe and secure environment in Kosovo with a force posture that matches security requirements.
NATO Defence Ministers also agreed that the gradual adjustment of KFOR's posture will be carefully monitored and closely reviewed by the North Atlantic Council as the situation evolves and in light of security conditions. They also agreed that the transition to a deterrent presence will continue to take place in full consultation and transparency with the international organisations in Kosovo and with the local institutions.
