On 27 January NATO’s Public Diplomacy Division and the Instituto de Cuestiones Internacionales y Politica Exterior (INCIPE) held a conference in Madrid, Spain, on the Alliance’s future new Strategic Concept.

The event brought together an audience of think-tankers, university students, administration officials and media who discussed topics as diverse as “how to combine today self-defence and security, cyber attacks and energy cut-offs, climate change and NATO’s role in projecting stability through partnerships”.

Participating experts included Karl Heinz Kamp, Director of the Research Division in NATO’s Defence College; Julian Lindley-French, Professor at the Netherlands Defence Academy; Alain Deletroz, Vice-President of the International Crisis Group (ICG); Alexander Kustenov, Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Madrid; Dr. Dirk Messner from the Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE), and other national speakers.
