NATO’s Public Diplomacy Division picked up the Econ Awards' top prize for “2009 Communications” for its online video clips Run, Basement and Staircase, in Berlin on 19 November 2009.
The video clips also won a Platinum Award in the category “Best Film/Interactive Media”.
The Econ Award is conferred by Handelsblatt and the Econ publishing house in Germany. It recognizes work in the field of Corporate Communications. This year more than 300 submissions were evaluated by nine communications sector experts.
Launched during NATO’s 60th anniversary year, the video clips are the centerpiece of NATO’s first ever online campaign. They were designed to increase awareness of the Alliance and its values among the younger generation. Going beyond its traditional communication channels, NATO turned its attention to social media and produced the short, thought-provoking clips with the online community in mind.
The Econ Award was attributed to NATO for both the quality of the videos as well as the Alliance’s exploration of new communication channels.
Speaking on behalf of the jury, Klaus Rainer Kirchhoff, Editor of the Jahrbuch der Kommunikation, commented that “when the message is so powerful that you can’t forget what you have seen, then we are talking about an artistic masterpiece.”
The project was implemented with support from Scholz and Friends.
