On the second day of his visit to the United Nations in New York, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen met first with UK Foreign Secretary David Milliband. They focused principally on Afghanistan, including the importance of stepping up the training and equipment of Afghan security forces, and the steps necessary to accelerate a transition to Afghan lead in security and other civilian sectors.

The Secretary General then met with President Ivanov of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia¹; they discussed regional security issues, and the ongoing efforts to find a solution to the name issue. 

The Secretary General then met with Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili; they discussed the internal situation in Georgia, with the Secretary General reiterating NATO's commitment to Georgia's territorial integrity, but also noting that all parties should refrain from violence and from responding to provocation.
