The NATO Secretary General travelled to Bratislava on a farewell visit to Slovakia.

During the visit, he met with President Ivan Gasparovic, with Prime Minister Robert Fico, with Minister of Foreign Affairs Miroslav Lajcak and with Minister of Defence Jaroslav Baska. The Secretary General thanked Slovakia for the valuable contributions to the Alliance's operations in the Balkans and  in Afghanistan.

"We are very glad to have Slovakia on board as a member of NATO", he said. "In five short years, Slovakia has proved to be a real asset to our Alliance, both politically and militarily".
