NATO Secretary General visits The Netherlands

On Monday 6 July, the NATO Secretary General, Mr. Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, accompanied by his wife Jeannine de Hoop Scheffer, made a farewell visit to The Netherlands. He met with the Prime Minister, Mr. Jan Peter Balkenende, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Maxime Verhagen and with the Minister of Defence, Mr. Eimert van Middelkoop.
After a special aubade by the Royal Netherlands Air Force Band, Prime Minister Balkenende awarded Mr. De Hoop Scheffer the royal decoration of "Ridder Grootkruis in de Orde van Oranje-Nassau".
The Secretary General also gave a keynote speech for the Netherlands Atlantic Association on “NATO: Securing Our Future” at Societeit De Witte in The Hague.
