The Deputy Secretary General of NATO Ambassador Claudio Bisogniero presided today the graduation ceremony of the the NATO Regional Cooperation Course (NRCC), at the NATO Defense College in Rome, which brought together officials from Mediterranean Dialogue (MD) and Istanbul Cooperation Initative (ICI) countries with their colleagues from NATO countries.

At their November 2006 Summit in Riga NATO’s Heads of State and Government launched the NATO Training Cooperation Initiative, in order for NATO to share their unique experience and expertise in training and education with MD and ICI partners, including through the establishment of a dedicated faculty at the NATO Defense College in Rome.

During his graduation address, Ambassador Bisogniero said: “The NATO Training and Cooperation Initiative, or NTCI, is not just a logical extension of our Mediterranean Dialogue and Istanbul Cooperation Initiative.  It is also a building block and a foundation stone.  The NATO Regional Cooperation Course, in which you have taken part, is an evolving, two-way street process, where we encourage participating Mediterranean and Gulf partners to provide input and feedback”.

The NATO Deputy Secretary General also remarked: “Our basic aim, in all these efforts, is to achieve the “human interoperability” that is essential if we are to find common solutions to common problems.  Because, in today’s security environment, no one of us can tackle the new security challenges, alone”.
