NATO information jeep tours Latvian schools

From 30 March to 13 May, NATO's Public Diplomacy Division is supporting a mobile information campaign – the “NATO jeep” - for school children in Latvia. The project aims at raising awareness of the Alliance in the country, five years after it became a NATO member.
The tour targets young students and their teachers within fifty selected schools in various regions of Latvia, with special attention devoted to rural or remote areas.
In each school a short film on Latvia’s five years in NATO is displayed, followed by a series of lectures from representatives of the Latvian Ministry of Defence, the National Armed Forces (NAF), several embassies and universities. The Alliance, its work and 60 years of experience are discussed, as well as Latvia’s achievements as a NATO member.
The students also have the opportunity to chat with members of the Latvian National Armed Forces who have been participating in NATO’s international missions in Afghanistan and Kosovo and share their experience.
Information booklets as well as audiovisual material about NATO’s membership and the Alliance’s 60th anniversary are then distributed to the students and to the school libraries.
The tour is organized by the Latvian Transatlantic organisation (LATO) in cooperation with NATO Public Diplomacy Division, the Ministry of Defence of Latvia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia.
