NATO and Partners share CBRN defence know-how

As part of Allied overall efforts against proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD), NATO will host a Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Defence demonstration at Belgium’s Joint CBRN Centre in Jambes, near Namur, Belgium, on 29 April.
Many experts from NATO member states, the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council (EAPC), Mediterranean Dialogue and Istanbul Cooperation Initiative participating states, partners such as Australia, Japan and the Republic of Korea, as well as representatives from the European Union (EU) and the Organisation for Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), are expected to participate.
The aim of the event is to exchange views and share best practices on CBRN Defence capability development and to discuss ways to improve civil and military cooperation in crisis management operations. Experts will focus on NATO’s most important CBRN defence capabilities, which include: CBRN Warning and Reporting, CBRN Command Control and Communications, CBRN Detection, Identification and Monitoring, including deployable CBRN Analytical Laboratories, Hazard Management Support, such as CBRN Explosive Ordnance Disposal or Improvised Explosive Device Disposal.
They will also be briefed on the work of NATO’s Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre (EADRCC).
On the same day participants will have an opportunity to observe live demonstrations of a Naval Interdiction Operation including aerial radiological reconnaissance, as well as of consequence management through a simulated accident scenario, involving both a local civil fire brigade and a NATO decontamination team.
