To celebrate the Alliance’s 60th anniversary, the NATO Runners Team organized a relay run from Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers (SHAPE) in Mons to NATO Headquarters in Brussels, on 20 April. NATO Secretary General took part in the last section of the race.

The itinerary, 96 kilometers long, was carefully planned to avoid traffic and pass by landmarks of the Belgian countryside, such as the Waterloo Lion. “What I expect from this initiative is that everybody enjoys the day…having fun and running in a friendly atmosphere”, said Marc Timmermans, president of the NATO Runners Team.

The event was also a prelude to the NATO Ironman Triathlon to be held on 31 May in Brussels, alongside the famous 20 km of Brussels run, to commemorate both the 20 years of the club and the 60 years of the Alliance.
