On 16 April, NATO’s Public Diplomacy Division organized, jointly with the Spanish Centro de Estudios Internacionales de Barcelona and the Círculo de Economía a conference to mark the Alliance’s 60th anniversary. Ambassador Claudio Bisogniero, NATO Deputy Secretary General, participated in the event.

Ambassador Bisogniero’s intervention focused on the future of the Alliance, new security threats and challenges, the 60th Anniversary Summit and the Comprehensive Approach. Debates also included questions and answers on Afghanistan, the role of NATO in a global world and the NATO-Russia relations.

Other keynote speakers included Mr. Josep Piqué, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Spain (2000-2002) and Mr. Narcis Serra, former Minister of Defence (1982-1992). The Infanta Dona Cristina de Borbon y Grecia, younger daughter of the king and Queen of Spain, made a notable appearance in the audience, which mainly featured participants from the business community but also media representatives and academics.
