“Six Colours” is a series of short videos illustrating the impact of NATO activities on the daily lives of citizens. A DVD will be launched on the occasion of the NATO Summit in Strasbourg/Kehl on 3-4 April 2009 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Alliance.

Over the past 60 years, NATO’s missions have diversified. Through the stories of men and women from different backgrounds, these video reports show various facets of the Alliance and highlight the added value that NATO provides when it comes to the security of citizens and their environment.

 “NATO is well-known but people, especially the younger generation, do not know what NATO does. The purpose of these stories is to show that, with the expertise of NATO…with the capabilities we have…, we are able to create a better, more secure environment for the citizens”, said Jean-François Bureau, NATO’s Assistant Secretary General for Public Diplomacy.

Six stories, six projects

Interviews with key figures working in the field reinforce the individual stories and illustrate the economic and social impact of the associated projects:

  • seismic evaluation and rehabilitation of existing buildings inTurkey;
  • medical assistance to the people of Kosovo;
  • evaluation and detection of explosive remnants of war in Jordan;
  • underwater detection of mines and bombs in Italy and Latvia;
  • fight against cyber attacks in Estonia;
  • resettlement of former military personnel to civilian life in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The DVD is available in English and French. It will be distributed at the Summit and aired on the NATO TV channel on the Internet as well as on Web 2.0 platforms such as Youtube and Dailymotion.

International versions and B-roll are available for the media.
