The NATO Deputy Secretary General Claudio Bisogniero visited Azerbaijan on 16 December 2008 in order to meet with high - level officials and discuss issues of common interest in the context of Azerbaijan's Individual Partnership Action Plan with NATO.

"My visit to Baku is a clear sign that the relationship between NATO and Azerbaijan is and remains important. NATO-Azerbaijan relations are in good shape and in the last few years we have been constantly deepening our cooperation", said. NATO Deputy Secretary General during the visit.

In Baku, the Deputy Secretary General met with Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmar Mammadyarov, with Minister of Defence Safar Abiyev, with Minister for National Security Eldar Mahmudov and also with the Vice-Chairman of the National Assembly Ziyafat Askerov.

Finally the Deputy Secretary General also addressed an audience of students from the NATO International School in Azerbaijan.
