From Wednesday 19 to Friday 21 November, the Secretary General, accompanied by Mrs de Hoop Scheffer, paid a visit to Ghana, on the invitation of President Kufuor.

The Secretary General held talks with the President and the Defence Minister on deepening the cooperation between NATO and Africa, building on the practical cooperation between NATO and the African Union in the context of the AU-led operations in Darfur and Somalia.

The Secretary Genera delivered a speech on this subject at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Center.

The Secretary General and Mrs de Hoop Scheffer also paid a visit to the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, king of the Ashanti people of Ghana.
