The NATO Secretary General visited the Moldovan capital Chisinau and met with President Vladimir Voronin. They discussed cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and NATO in the framework of the Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP)and other issues of common interest for NATO and the Republic of Moldova.

During the visit, the Secretary General also delivered a speech at the State University of Moldova. In his address, the Secretary General commended Moldova's contribution to the international community's efforts in Afghanistan. "Moldova's commitment of five helicopters to the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan shows that even relatively small countries can help to provide security well beyond their own region."

The Secretary General also met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrei Stratan and with Minister of Defence Vitalie Vrabie.

Finally, the Secretary General visited the Information and Documentation Centre on NATO in Chisinau.
