Exercise Cooperative Marlin 2008, a NATO command post exercise involving participants from Allied and Partner countries, took place in Split, Croatia, from 1 to 12 September 2008. The aim was to practice tactical planning for a crisis-response operation.

The exercise is designed to familiarize Partner countries with the Alliance’s procedures and concepts and to enhance mutual understanding and interoperability. After a preparation phase including a series of briefings, lectures and seminar discussions, participants were given the opportunity to apply NATO procedures in response to a fictitious crisis scenario.

The exercise involved participation from NATO Commands Northwood, Naples and Alliance Submarine Command (ASC), and the International Submarine Search and Rescue Liaison Office (ISMERLO). Participants included representatives from seven NATO member states (Canada, Germany, Greece, Italy, Lithuania, Romania and Turkey), four Partner countries (Albania, Croatia, Georgia and Ukraine) and one Mediterranean Dialogue country (Israel).
