Північноатлантична рада провела інавгураційне засідання Комісії НАТО-Грузія (КНГ) 25 вересня. КНГ була формально заснована підписанням рамкового документа Генеральним секретарем НАТО і грузинським прем’єр-міністром Володимиром Ґурґенідзе.
Оскільки в Комісії НАТО-Грузія будуть представлені усі члени Альянсу і Грузія, рішення про її створення було 19 серпня прийняте міністрами закордонних справ країн НАТО.
Комісія НАТО-Грузія забезпечує важливу додаткову структуру співпраці між НАТО і Грузією. Головними завданнями КНГ є поглиблення політичного діалогу між НАТО і Грузією і нагляд за процесом, започаткованим у Бухаресті, зважаючи на прагнення Грузії до членства.
КНГ також має наміри поглиблювати співпрацю між НАТО і Грузією над втіленням реформ і координувати допомогу Грузії з боку Альянсу в ліквідації наслідків нещодавнього конфлікту.
