Turkey’s ongoing efforts in Afghanistan are at the centre of a photo exhibition held at NATO Headquarters from 10 to 16 June in Brussels.

Turkey, which enjoys special historical and cultural ties with Afghanistan, has launched a comprehensive assistance program, with the aim of improving Afghan ownership and ensuring sustainable peace and development in the country.

Turkey’s support to Afghanistan is coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Turkish Cooperation and Development Agency. The Turkish Armed Forces provide substantial contributions to the capacity building efforts in the security realm both through bilateral channels and also through NATO/ISAF, which has twice been under Turkish command.

Among other activities, the Turkish Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) in Wardak conducts police training and contributes to the formation of a safe and secure environment in the province.

“This exhibition is about Turkey showing us the challenges in Afghanistan, but also the successes of the people, civilian and military,” said NATO Deputy Secretary General Ambassador Claudio Bisogniero who opened the exhibition with the Turkish Minister of Defence Vecdi Gonul on 12 June.
