Morocco contributes to Operation Active Endeavour

At a ceremony which took place on 2 June at the Headquarters of the Atlantic Alliance in Brussels, the Secretary General of NATO H.E. Mr. Jaap de Hoop Scheffer and the Head of the Mission of the Kingdom of Morocco to the European institutions H.E. Mr. Menouar Alem, proceeded to an exchange of letters for the contribution of Morocco to Operation Active Endeavour.
This is an important step forward in NATO-Morocco cooperation in fighting terrorism. One of the possibilities for practical cooperation foreseen by the enhanced Mediterranean Dialogue at the June 2004 Istanbul Summit by NATO's Heads of State and government was to offer Mediterranean Dialogue countries the possibility to contribute to Operation Active Endeavour.
The practical modalities of Morocco's participation in Operation Active Endeavour (OAE) will be defined at a later stage, in a MOU to be agreed by the Operational Command of OAE and the Moroccan Authorities.
