The Secretary General of NATO, Jaap de Hoop Scheffer participated in the Spring session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (NPA) in Berlin on 27th May.

In his keynote speech, Mr De Hoop Scheffer elaborated on NATO enlargement, on NATO's operations in Kosovo and Afghanistan and on the importance of NATO's partnerships. He also emphasized the role of parliamentarians in resourcing and explaining NATO policy, and urged them to maintain their commitment and support for a number of key issues on the agenda.

In the framework of the parliamentarians' meeting Mr De Hoop Scheffer had bilateral meetings with the German Minister of Foreign Affairs, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, and with the Speaker of the Senate of Pakistan, Mohammedmian Soomro.
