The Russian Chief of Defence General Yuriy Baluyevskiy had an open and frank discussion on a number of issues with his counterparts from NATO countries at NATO Headquarters on 15 May.

With regard to operational matters, General Baluyevskiy confirmed that the Russian ship the Ladniy is preparing for its second deployment in support of Operation Active Endeavour -- NATO's maritime counter-terrorist operation in the Mediterranean -- in August/September 2008.

The NRC Chiefs of Defence noted a paper on the status and outlook for practical military cooperation, approving its recommendations, as well as an assessment of the NRC Military Work Plan for 2007 and Beyond, and a paper on military cooperation in the framework of the NRC Action Plan on Terrorism. They also looked ahead to other opportunities for joint exercises and training.
