The photo exhibit “122 days in Afghanistan” by Czech Warrant Officer 1 (WO1) Daniel Hlaváč spans the four-months deployment of his battalion in the north-east of Afghanistan as part of the ISAF Provincial Reconstruction Teams (PRT).
His work depicts the daily life of troops serving abroad and their commitment to the local population. “What words can’t express, pictures can”, said WO1 Daniel Hlaváč, who won third prize in the category “Everyday Life” of the Czech Press Photo contest for one of his photos.
“This exhibition brings us closer to a distant reality”, said Štefan Füle, Czech Permanent Representative to NATO, who opened the display together with Jean-François Bureau, NATO’s Assistant Secretary General for Public Diplomacy, and Dr. Zia Nezem, Afghan Ambassador to Belgium.
“Soldiers participating [in the reconstruction efforts] are also human beings who watch the world around them”, said Mr. Füle, underlining the involvementof the PRTs working in Afghanistan. Their daily tasks vary from regular patrolling and reconnaissance to humanitarian aid and reconstruction projects.
The exhibition is organized by the Czech Delegation to NATO and will be displayed from 8 to 16 May in the NATO Press Area. Part of the exhibition can also be viewed on the NATO website.
