On 10 April 2008, the NATO Public Diplomacy Division organised, in the context of the public diplomacy activities for the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative, a visit to NATO Headquarters of journalists from the Kingdom of Bahrain.
During the visit the Bahraini media representatives had a joint interview with NATO Secretary General, H.E. Mr. Jaap de Hoop Scheffer. They also met with Mr. Jean-François Bureau, NATO Assistant Secretary for Public Diplomacy; H.E. Amb. Stewart Eldon, Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom on the North Atlantic Council; Mr. Nicola de Santis, Head of the MD and ICI Countries Section NATO Public Diplomacy Division; Dr. Alberto Bin, Head of the MD, ICI and Contact Countries Section, Political Affairs and Security Policy Division; Mr. Michael Rühle, Deputy Head, Policy Planning Section, Private Office of the NATO Secretary General, and Maj.Gen. Georges Lebel Assistant Director for Cooperation and Regional Security, International Military Staff.
The briefings they received from NATO officials covered NATO’s Transformation, the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative, Current Political Issues, and Military Cooperation under ICI.
