A new video – “Defence against terrorism: NATO’s role” – will be launched on the occasion of the NATO Summit in Bucharest on 2-4 April 2008.

Through interviews with those working in the field or at NATO Headquarters, this video highlights the added value that NATO provides in various aspects of the fight against terrorism.

The film focuses in particular on NATO’s security operation in Afghanistan and its maritime counter-terrorist operation in the Mediterranean, which actively demonstrate NATO's resolve and solidarity in combating terrorism.

Other topics covered include NATO’s support for intelligence sharing and civil emergency planning, as well as initiatives in the areas of research and technology development and scientific collaboration, which are aimed at developing practical responses to some of the challenges posed by terrorism.

This video is part of a package of public diplomacy activities planned for the forthcoming NATO Summit.

“The more we use audio-visual material, the more we are understood by the public,” says Jean-François Bureau, NATO’s Assistant Secretary General for the Public Diplomacy Division.

Approximately 10 000 copies of the DVD will be distributed to the media, high level officials and the general public during the two-day NATO summit.
