The Prime Minister of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia¹, Mr. Nikola Gruevski, visited NATO and had a meeting with the North Atlantic Council to discuss his country’s Progress Report within the Membership Action Plan.

The discussion showed that efforts to join NATO are being well noted by Allies. NATO Allies agreed that the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia1; has made progress in implementing political, economic and military reforms, but that more needs to be accomplished.

Allies reiterated that decisions in the run up to the Bucharest Summit have not been taken yet and that sustained reform efforts will remain crucial for the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia1 to achieve its Euro-Atlantic aspirations.

Allies expressed gratitude for the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia’s1 sustained contributions to the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) noting that the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia1 is now a security provider, in Europe and beyond.

The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia 1 joined the Membership Action Plan (MAP) in 1999.
