The NATO Deputy Secretary General, Ambassador Claudio Bisogniero, and the Moroccan Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Omar Hilale, opened a two-day seminar in Rabat on 26 November 2007.

The seminar, titled, “The Cooperation between Morocco and NATO at the Service of Peace and Stability in the Mediterranean,” brought together a large number of opinion leaders, academics, parliamentarians, journalists and officials from Morocco. NATO's Public Diplomacy Division and the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs co-organised the event.

During the visit, Ambassador Bisogniero also met with the Moroccan Minister of Defence, Mr. Abdherrahman Sbai, the Moroccan Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Omar Hilale, and with other high level government officials.

According to Ambassador Bisogniero:

"Morocco is a country with a solid record of contributing to international security and of cooperation with NATO. I have evoked the participation of your country when I spoke about NATO’s engagement in Kosovo. The precious contribution that Morocco offers there, represents the continuation of its participation in the stabilisation operation conducted with success by NATO in Bosnia-Herzegovina."

The Ambassador noted that since Morocco joined NATO’s Mediterranean Dialogue in 1995, it has become, in twelve years, one of the more active participants.

Morocco always stressed, and rightly so, the importance of a more intense political dialogue, in parallel with an enhanced practical cooperation,” he said.
