A conference on “Media and Terrorism: the Euro-Atlantic Approach” was held in Kharkiv on 25 October for local and regional journalists. The participating media representatives had the opportunity to learn about the approach taken by NATO-country journalists when covering terrorism and the actions taken by NATO member countries to fight terrorism.

Presentations on the history of terrorism and the economic grounds that cause terrorism were given by representatives of the Kharkiv State Administration, Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense and local universities. The role of the media in fighting terrorism was addressed by a representative of Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU). The participants were also able to exchange views with two officials working on related issues at NATO Headquarters by video-conference.

The conference was organized by the Centre for Social Economic Studies “Diamatik” in collaboration with the Kharkiv Regional State Administration and the support of the NATO Information and Documentation Centre.
