Ambassador Alessandro Minuto-Rizzo, the outgoing NATO Deputy Secretary General, was awarded on 22 October the Commander’s Cross with the Star of the Order of the Merit of the Republic of Hungary (civil division) in honouring his noble assistance to the Republic of Hungary in the course of its integration to NATO.

The state decoration, awarded by the President of the Republic, László Sólyom, is presented to civilians for outstanding and exemplary achievement in the development of the nation, the advancement of its interests, and the promotion of universal human values.

Presenting the state decoration, Hungarian Permanent Representative to NATO, Ambassador Zoltán Martinusz underlined the indispensable role Ambassador Minuto-Rizzo played in promoting the integration of member states that had joined the Alliance in 1999. He also highlighted the invaluable guidance and cordial assistance received by Hungarian officials from the former Deputy Secretary General during his six-year-long service in the Alliance.
