A group of government officials from Tajikistan visited NATO Headquarters and the Allied Operational Command from 21 to 25 September. The aim of the visit was to explore possibilities to deepen cooperation with NATO in different areas of particular interest to their country.

The group included representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Security Council, and the Ministry of the Interior, who work on issues related to partnership and cooperation with NATO. The delegation was led by General Maruf Khasanov of the Military Cooperation Directorate of the Tajik Ministry of Defence.
 
The officials were briefed on the political issues on NATO's current agenda, including its relations with Central Asia and with Russia as well as the NATO-led operation in Afghanistan. They also had the opportunity to discuss different aspects of cooperation under the Partnership for Peace programme, which Tajikistan joined in 2002.
 
Tajikistan's programme of cooperation with NATO is set out in an Individual Partnership Plan, which includes cooperation in the fight against terrorism, border security, crisis management and civil emergency planning.
 
The visit was organised by NATO's Public Diplomacy Division.
