A special meeting of the NATO-Russia Council Military Representatives was held in Naples, Italy, on 18 September. The event, hosted by the Italian Chief of Defence, was organised to mark the 5th anniversary of the NATO-Russia Council and the 10th anniversary of the NATO-Russia Founding Act.

Allied Military Representatives were updated by their Russian counterpart on Russian support to Operation Active Endeavour. The Russian frigate Ladniy is currently deployed alongside Allied ships in the Mediterranean, assisting NATO's maritime counter-terrorist operation until 24 September. It is the second Russian ship to support the operation and other Russian vessels are expected to be rotated into the operation in future.

Plans for future military-to-military cooperation in the NRC framework was another key item of discussion.
