NATO emergency planning board holds meeting in Georgia

At the invitation of the Ministry of Economic Development of Georgia, a NATO civil emergency working group conducted a meeting with Partnership for Peace countries from 17 to 19 September in Tbilisi in Georgia.
The NATO Planning Board for Inland Surface Transport was established in order to ensure that civilian expertise and experience in the transport sector (road, rail, inland waterways and containerisation) serves NATO's civil and military needs to maximum effect through the exchange of information and best practices.
The meeting addressed a range of issues including: civil-military co-operation, inland surface transport crisis arrangements; preparedness against chemical, biological and radiological risks; involvement in joint exercises and training events, especially on consequence management.
The possibility of greater involvement by Mediterranean and Istanbul Co-operation Initiative Countries was examined as well.
The meeting was attended by representatives from NATO and Partner countries, as well as NATO Military Authorities.
