The Foreign Minister of Armenia, Vartan Oskanian, visited NATO Headquarters on 4 September, to review progress in the implementation of Armenia’s Individual Partnership Action Plan with NATO.

The Foreign Minister met with the Secretary General of NATO, Jaap de Hoop Scheffer.

A good first year

The Secretary  General said the first year of the plan had gotten a positive review from NATO Allies, and he encouraged further effort indefence and security-sector reform.

Mr. De Hoop Scheffer also thanked Armenia for its decision to increase its contribution to the NATO-led Kosovo peacekeeping force (KFOR).

The Secretary General also praised the conduct of the recent parliamentary elections, saying they were a step in the right direction.  He says NATO looked forward to the upcoming presidential election.
