The Ukrainian Ministry of Defence hosted its first “European and Euro-Atlantic Partnership Day” at Ukraine’s National Defence Academy, on 14 July in Kyiv.

The organization of the event was supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Defence Academy, the NATO-Ukraine Civic League, the Czech Association for Euro-Atlantic Partnership “Jagello 2000”, and the NATO Information and Documentation Center.

The event was held to coincide with a multinational exercise, “Strimky Tryzub” (Rapid Trident). A wide-ranging programme included performances by the Orchestra of the Ukrainian Armed Forces; exhibitions by the Ministry of Defence and several NATO and EU embassies in Ukraine; access to the National Defence Academy Museum; an exposition of military symbolic and armory; a demonstration of documentary films; a military-theme drawing contest for children; and the distribution of information on international peacekeeping exercises.

At the invitation of the organizers, the NATO Information and Documentation Centre participated with a tent to distribute publications and information material on NATO and to highlight its activities, including cooperation through the NATO Science for Peace and Security Programme.

The NATO Liaison Office was also present to raise awareness of practical cooperation between NATO and Ukraine in the areas of retraining, professional development and wider defence reform.
