The NATO Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy, Ambassador Martin Erdmann, visited Beijing from 19 to 22 June.

He met with  the Chinese Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kong Quan and with the Director-General of the Department of European Affairs at the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Li Ruiyu, among other officials.

During his visit, Ambassador Erdmann held a series of discussions with his Chinese counterparts  about issues of mutual concern for NATO and for China, such as international security, non-proliferation and NATO’s mission in Afghanistan.

Ambassador Erdmann also briefed his Chinese counterparts on NATO’s transformation. This was the first NATO official high-level visit  to China, in the context of the Alliance’s evolving political dialogue.
