Alliance calls for ‘speedy’ Kosovo resolution

Meeting in Brussels, 15 June, NATO Defence Ministers reiterated their call for a United Nations Security Council Resolution on Kosovo as soon as possible, along the proposals put forward by UN Special Envoy Ahtisaari.
NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer also stressed that NATO will do what is necessary to keep the peace during what is a sensitive period.
“Let nobody who might be thinking of resorting to violence have the illusion that they would not be met by a stiff response,” Mr. De Hoop Scheffer told reporters, “It is essential that everybody in Kosovo stays calm.”
