Ms. Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the US House of Representatives, led a Congressional delegation which met on 31 May with NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer.
Ms. Pelosi and the delegation expressed the strong US bipartisan support for NATO, which the Secretary General welcomed.
They discussed NATO’s operations in Afghanistan and Kosovo, and the need for continued strong engagement by all Allies in both theatres.
They also discussed missile defence and relations with the Russian Federation. The Secretary General assured the delegation that the NATO-Russia Council is being used to the fullest to promote dialogue with Russia, on all the issues currently of concern.
