NATO’s Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs, Martin Erdmann, finalized on 7 March in Tokyo with the Japanese authorities a framework for NATO-Japan cooperation in Afghanistan.
This framework will enable Japan to provide humanitarian assistance in support of NATO-led Provincial Reconstruction Teams.
Ambassador Erdmann was leading a NATO delegation visiting Tokyo for high-level talks with the Japanese authorities.
The two sides discussed a wide range of security issues of importance both to NATO and Japan. The topics include the Alliance’s transformation, NATO’s operation in Afghanistan, as well as non-proliferation.
