A significant number of weapons and ammunition were recently turned in by local Afghans or collected during a series of operations by NATO-led troops in eastern Afghanistan.

A significant number of weapons and ammunition were recently turned in by local Afghans or collected during a series of ISAF operations in Regional Command-East.

On Friday, an ISAF patrol found a large arms cache while conducting operations in the Sabari district of Khost province. In the last four weeks, six caches have been discovered in Khost.

The same day, a civilian turned in weapons to the Kalagush Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) in the Alinger district of Laghman province, whilst yesterday, a patrol found another cache near PRT Mehtar Lam in the Nurgaram district of Nuristan province.

The weapons and ammunition seized consisted of:

  • 63 rockets
  • 137 mortar rounds
  • 157 riffle rounds
  • 92 rocket fuses
  • 63 mortar fuses
  • 10 RPG launchers and rockets
  • 48 82mm rounds
  • 6 75mm rounds
  • 3 anti-tank mines

All of these items were destroyed at an ISAF camp.
