NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer continued his round of visits to NATO member countries ahead of the Riga Summit with a visit to The Hague on 23 November.

NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer continued his round of visits to NATO member countries ahead of the Riga Summit with a visit to The Hague on 23 November.

Mr. De Hoop Scheffer met with Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende, Foreign Minister Ben Bot and Defence Minister Henk Kamp.

They  discussed the key issues on the agenda of the Summit meeting of NATO Heads of State and Government, which will take place in the Latvian capital Riga on 28 and 29 November.

The Summit will address NATO’s operations, including NATO’s priority mission – Afghanistan, the Alliance’s continuing transformation, future enlargement and the strengthening of NATO’s partnerships with non-member countries.

The Secretary General praised the Netherlands for its contribution to NATO’s operations, particularly in southern Afghanistan.
