Kabul City Police, with the support of NATO-ISAF, have dismantled a criminal bomb-making cell responsible for bomb attacks in the Afghan capital.

Last week Kabul City Police (KCP), with ISAF support, arrested four men responsible for bomb attacks along the Old Russian Road north of Kabul.

With the help of local Afghan civilians, the KCP were able to identify and arrest members of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) cell. They also confiscated components and explosives that could have been used in future attacks.

The capture of this cell comes at a time when the amount of IED attacks in the capital is a topical issue. ISAF now has a dedicated counter improvised explosive device (C-IED) cell that invstigates evidence that leads authorities to catch those who seek to disrupt the security of the Captial.

This successful operation has potentially saved the lives of many Afghan citizens.

Chain of Events:

  • On 31 October, an insurgent was arrested by the Kabul City Police when he was caught trying to place an IED on the Old Russian Road headed toward Bagram from Kabul.
  • On 2 November, an IED supplier was arrested by the Kabul City Police along with two other individuals in a different part of the city.
  • On 3 November, the KCP recovered numerous IED components, material and explosives in Kabul City.
