As part of the preparations for NATO's upcoming Summit in Riga, Latvia, the Centre for Military and Strategic Studies at the University of Calgary, Alberta, Canada will host the flagship conference: "NATO Transformation: Revitalization for the Future."

As part of the preparations for NATO’s upcoming Summit in Riga, Latvia, the Centre for Military and Strategic Studies at the University of Calgary, Alberta, Canada will host the flagship conference:  “NATO Transformation: Revitalization for the Future.”

Keynote speeches will be delivered by Major General Doug Dempster (retired), NATO Assistant Secretary General for Executive Management, on Political Transformation: Extending the Reach of NATO, Admiral Sir Mark Stanhope, NATO Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Transformation on Organizational Transformation: Projecting Stability and Global Coalitions and Lt. Col. Charles Barry (retired), Senior Research Fellow, Center for Technology and National security Policy on Military Transformation: Capabilities and Technology.

In the run-up to Riga, the three-day programme will focus on various key areas of NATO’s ongoing transformation. Panels will cover topics:

  1. Political Transformation: Political Decisions and Military Reach
  2. Organizational Transformation: Operations and Commitments
  3. Military Transformation: Interoperability and Reaction Time
  4. Transformation at War: How far Does it work?

The conference will host a full range of esteemed experts from the realms of academia, private sector, NGOs, and political and military officials who will discuss a range of perspectives on the Alliance’s future.  Markedly,  Major-General Ivan Fenton, Assistant Director of Operations, NATO International Military Staff, will come in from NATO HQ, Brussels to discuss political decisions and the military reach of the Alliance and Lieutenant-General Michel Maisonneuve, Chief of Staff, Supreme Allied Commander Transformation, will arrive from ACT, Norfolk to discuss operations and commitments of the Alliance.
