The NATO Public Diplomacy Division and the Royal United Services Institute for Defence and Security Studies (RUSI) co-sponsored a conference on: “NATO, the Mediterranean and the Broader Middle East: The Future”, which took place in London on 11 September 2006.

The conference brought together opinion leaders and policy makers from  Mediterranean Dialogue and broader Middle East countries, with senior officials from NATO to discuss the Alliance’s outreach to the region, through the Mediterranean Dialogue and the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative.

NATO’s Assistant Secretary General for Defence Policy and Planning, Mr. John Colston, delivered the conference’s opening address and United States Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy, Ms. Colleen P. Graffy, the  closing address.

Other speakers at the conference included: UK Ministry of Defence’s Policy Director Mr. Desmond Bowen; Head of NATO’s Public Diplomacy MD and ICI Countries Section, Mr. Nicola de Santis; H.E. Mohammed Belmahi, Ambassador of Morocco to the UK; HE. Tamer Ali-Al-Sarah, Vice President of Kuwait’s National Security Bureau; Head of NATO’s Political Affairs and Security Policy MD and ICI Countries Section Dr. Alberto Bin.
