Commenting on NATO operations and a number of incidents in Southern Afghanistan and Kabul in the last few days, resulting in several ISAF soldiers and Afghan nationals killed and multiple casualties, Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, said: “I am deeply saddened by the news of the latest deaths ISAF has suffered and the Afghan lives lost.”

"I send my condolences to the families of the victims and wish all other casualties a speedy recovery. I salute all ISAF soldiers who do such a splendid and important job under difficult conditions. NATO’s resolve is undeterred in helping the Afghan government to see this difficult mission through, in order to give the Afghans the chance for a normal life and to ensure Afghanistan will never be a safe haven for terrorists again.”
