NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer and UN Secretary General Kofi Annan discussed current international issues and relations between the two organisations during a meeting in Brussels, 18 July.
Mr. De Hoop Scheffer and Mr. Annan also discussed the situation in Darfur, including NATO’s continuing support for the African’s Union peacekeeping mission in the region, as well as the Alliance’s potential support for a possible future UN-led mission.
The two leaders also discussed Kosovo and the ongoing talks on its future status.
Mr. De Hoop Scheffer reiterated NATO’s commitment to maintain the Alliance-led Kosovo peacekeeping force (KFOR) at its current operational strength until the end of the year.
