On Friday 24 March, the North Atlantic Council agreed to proceed with Phase B of the design for the new NATO Headquarters.

This is an important step as it will lead to a more detailed study of the project, based on the inventory of work and office space requirements of NATO member countries and the Alliance’s international staff.

It follows a detailed review of the functional requirements of the building, which began in 2005, and a study of the ability of the contest-winning concept design to meet those requirements.

Construction of the new Headquarters will begin in 2008, and the new Headquarters is due to be completed in 2012.
