Conference on Russia and NATO: Towards Effective Cooperation

On 17 and 18 February, the faculty of International Relations of the St. Petersburg State University celebrated its 10th anniversary with an international conference on Russia and NATO: Towards Effective Cooperation in the Changing World.
The conference, supported by the NATO Information Office in Moscow, as well as the American and the Dutch General Consulates in St. Petersburg, consisted of plenary sessions, followed by four roundtables on different topics gathering various experts to speak to students over two days.
Participants showed a great deal of enthusiasm, and welcomed the opportunity to freely debate these issues in an open and friendly environment.
Students debate experts
The first plenary on Russia and NATO: key issues of mutual relations brought together some 150 people in the audience with key players in NATO-Russia relations, such as Jean Fournet , Assistant Secretary General for Public Diplomacy at NATO; Colonel General Anatoliy Mazurkevich, Head of Department for International Military Cooperation, Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation; and Alexander Alexeev, Ambassador-at-large, Adviser to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
The roundtable on the Problems of relations between Russia and NATO from the youth’s perspective allowed students from various universities, to engage with some of NATO’s experts in relations with Russia , such as Petr Lunak , from the Public Diplomacy Division at NATO.
